Swan Ballet believes that dance is one of the most beautiful and expressive art forms ever conceived. Our school combines the discipline and technique of dance in a joyful, supportive, and creative environment. We are proud to provide dance to all students in a pleasant family atmosphere. We believe that years of individual attention devoted to the students are extremely important and will have a tremendous effect on their lives in later years. Students graduate from the Swan Ballet experience enriched and enhanced by the exposure to and participation in the creative and cultural world of dance. In addition, the technique and accomplishments derived from the Swan Ballet experience provide our students with essential skills and attitudes necessary to be successful in higher educational and career endeavors.

Swan Ballet was established by Lilie K. Pour, or Ms. Lilie as her students know her, in 1980. She has an exceptional background in Classical Ballet. Her training began with William Doller, former head of the New York City Ballet. Additional training followed with the Royal Academy of Ballet in London and Russian technique under various Russian instructors. Ms. Lilie is also an active member of Dance Educators of America. Our highly trained faculty come from reputable institutions and companies, many with college degrees. Thanks to our popularity with students and their friends, Swan Ballet has now expanded to two studios in Fairfax and Chantilly with over 800 students.

Class Descriptions and Curriculum

Swan offers three primary styles of dance: Ballet, Jazz, and Tap. In addition to these, Swan offers classes in Lyrical, Hip Hop, Pilates, Belly, Swing, and Latin. Class sessions are offered on a trimester schedule (Fall: September-December; Spring: January-June; Summer: July-August) and schedules are finalized about one month prior to the start of a new session. Classes are offered Monday through Saturday year-round for students of all ages. Classes are structured based upon age, skill level, and area of interest. Students range from ages 2 1/2 to adults, beginners through professionals.

Occasionally, special workshops or master classes are offered featuring visiting guest artists and choreographers. Additionally, to take advantage of the summer school recess from the traditional learning cycle, and to provide students with refreshing educational activities relating to the arts, Swan offers summer dance camps and intensive workshops.

The Swan Ballet Dance Company performs year round. With its annual presentation of "The Nutcracker" in December and the annual spring recital in June, students and faculty are kept very busy. Admission into the Advanced and Intermediate Ballet companies are by the Director's invitation only and is a recognized honor.

Due to high demand and class enrollment limits, persons interested in participating in the offered classes are encouraged to contact us immediately for more information or to register for the class sessions of their choosing.
